Community Update: Building Occupancy Reaches Nearly 50%

As the building reaches nearly 50% occupancy, elders, singles, and families are settling in, building community, and filling available RGI and LEM units in Port Alberni.

We are pleased to share a positive progress update on the Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society building.

The building is now approaching 50% occupancy, with elders, singles, and families actively living in the space. Residents have been settling in well and are expressing strong appreciation for both the building itself and its central location in Port Alberni. As more people move in, a sense of connection is beginning to take shape, and a shared community is forming within the building.

Current Unit Availability

At this time:

  • All deep subsidy units are fully occupied
  • RGI (Rent-Geared-to-Income) and LEM (Low-End Market) units are still available
  • No two-bedroom units are available

The following unit types remain open:

  • Bachelor units
  • One-bedroom accessible units
  • Three-bedroom units
  • Four-bedroom units

Availability will continue to change as units are filled, so timely applications remain important.

Important Eligibility Reminder

To be considered for housing:

  • Applicants must be registered with BC Housing
  • Applicants must be Ahousaht
  • Applicants must be living in Port Alberni

Being on the BC Housing Registry is a required step for all applicants, regardless of unit type.
