Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society Building Nears Occupancy with New Deliveries

The Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society building in Port Alberni is one step closer to welcoming residents, with new laundry facilities and waste management services now in place.

Progress on the New Housing Building in Port Alberni

The Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society is pleased to share that our new housing building in Port Alberni is moving steadily toward occupancy. This week, important deliveries arrived to help prepare the building for residents, including laundry equipment provided by Sparkle Laundry and recycling and garbage bins supplied by Waste Management. These additions mark another key step in creating a safe, comfortable, and functional living space for future tenants.

BC Housing Registration Requirements

As we move closer to opening, we remind all prospective tenants that registration with BC Housing is required in order to qualify for subsidized housing. Many applications submitted directly through our website are incomplete because applicants are not registered with BC Housing. Without registration, applicants will only be eligible for market-value units.

Community Safety During Wildfire Season

In addition to building updates, we are mindful of the ongoing wildfire situation south of Port Alberni, which has placed some areas under evacuation alert. With smoky conditions and warm temperatures persisting, the Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society encourages all community members to take precautions:

    • Stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activity during peak smoke hours.

    • Wear a mask if you have respiratory or health concerns.

    • Check in on neighbours and Elders to ensure their safety and comfort.

A Vision Coming to Life

The vision of the Citaapi Mahtii Housing Society has always been to provide safe, culturally rooted housing for Indigenous peoples living away from their territories. With occupancy approaching, we are excited to see this vision becoming a reality, and we thank our partners, supporters, and community members for walking with us on this journey.

Klecko Klecko to all for your continued support.
